Army Scales Back Robotic Projects.
The Wired (1/14, Hodge) "Danger Room" blog reports that the Army "has been seriously scaling back its modernization efforts." According to sources, this includes "canceling plans for an autonomous ground vehicle and a pilotless helicopter," both of which were products of Future Combat Systems, which was canceled last year. "The service is now focused on smaller bits and pieces that can be "spun out" to the current force." These include the Class I Unmanned Aerial System and the Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle, among other projects. "The remaining technologies are now referred to as Army Brigade Combat Team modernization."
