Scramjets Called "Future" Of Spaceflight.
Spaceflight Now (5/16, Covault) reported, "The first hypersonic X-51 scramjet powered long-duration flights to give the Pentagon a new 'Prompt Global Strike' capability that ties atmospheric and space propulsion will begin as early as May 25 at Edwards Air Force Base." According to the article, scramjet propulsion is the "future" for spaceflight as even a "partially successful" test would "hasten" progress on spacecraft that could launch horizontally. Furthermore, this is "an example of the type of revolutionary propulsion that President Obama says will be needed for future space operations." The article noted "the Air Force, NASA and Obama administration see a bright future for a range of scramjet-powered vehicles" and "scramjet development will proceed no matter what happens in the near-term shift to commercial crew and cargo launch to the International Space Station."
Rocket-Propelled Pill Could Improve Drug Delivery.
New Scientist (5/16) reported that researchers at Vanderbilt University "have developed a more forceful drug release system" than what is currently found in radio-controlled drug capsules: "a capsule with a drug-ejecting piston that is driven by a tiny solid-fuel rocket motor." During testing, the researchers "found that 20 milligrams of fuel successfully released all 16 milligrams of a drug."
