Military Working To Encrypt Video Feeds From UAVs.
The Washington Post (12/19, A10, Nakashima) reported that the Air Force said Friday that it would be "at least until 2014" before the military is able to encrypt video feeds from its unmanned drones. The Post added, however, that the existing drone fleet will not be retrofit when the military obtains the encryption capability. The Army also uses unmanned aircraft. Also on Friday, Adm. Mike Mullen said "he was concerned about cybersecurity" but "no known damage" to US operations had occurred in the incident reported this week in which insurgents in Iraq hacked into the video feed of unmanned drones.
